White Devil Disco - Red

I don’t find myself often drawing parallels between astrology and music, however listening to the latest release from White Devil Disco on April 21st, the beginning of the current Mercury retrograde, left me with almost no choice. We’ve just entered eclipse season, and know for certain that I am not the only one who has felt their world shifting in the last couple of days. Whether you believe in astrology or not, we can all relate to those periods of our lives where we undergo transformation; sometimes it is by choice, other times we find choice taken out of our hands by the actions of others around us. The only control we have is over our response - when the door is shut in our face, do we start bashing it in, or do we walk away and re-strategize? There’s no right or wrong answer usually, and we don’t get second chances to see what the other choice would have resulted in. All we have is gut feeling and the decision to use it or not.
“Red”, a haunting and moody track, encapsulates this feeling for me. It’s seductive and feels like it’s pulling you in - but whether it’s a siren song is something you’ll have to decide for yourself. It’s an epic, atmospheric tune that swells in your chest, whirling like tidal pools, ominous, unpredictable, and yet ever encroaching - the sky darkens and the tide comes in whether you are ready or not.
White Devil Disco, signed to Dash the Henge Records, are a a dark pop group formed in the summer of 2021, led by ex-Fat White Family bassist Joseph Pancucci. Their high-octane live shows, with music that is textured and sleazy, tied together with infectious hooks and atmospheric synth lines, have gathered an increasingly cult following. This latest single is no doubt going to continue their streak of current success, and is without a doubt going to be the soundtrack to my pre-summer months spent scheming on plans for the rest of the year. The song is available to listen to now on all streaming platforms.
